NIGHT LIFE Rumba Cafe opening with Hoodoo Soul Band, Yumbambe and Bobby Floyd — 9 p.m. Friday at Rumba Cafe, 2507 Summit St. (614-268-1841) Hoodoo Soul Band and Yumbambe percussionist Mark Henderson is taking Latin music and food into the "long north" beginning Friday with the opening of the Rumba Cafe. The gathering spot will serve newworld Latino versions of tapas, Cuban black-bean soup and other light Caribbean fare. It includes a tiki-bar patio and will feature music six nights a week, focusing on Latin, blues and funk. Scheduled are Kevin Oliver (Mondays), New Basics Brass Band (Tuesdays), Tony McClung’s Bird Shack (Wednesdays), Yumbambe or other Latin bands (Thursdays) and blues, funk or rock bands on Fridays and Saturdays. Early in the evening of the grand opening, Henderson’s Brazil drum corps, Sambateria, will lead a cacophonous march through the neighborhood. Admission is free. |
